Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Your journey on the 6-Day Rwanda Primate Package with Wild Terrain Africa begins as you arrive at Kigali International Airport. You’ll be warmly welcomed and then embark on a scenic drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to explore local markets and visit the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. The drive will take you through picturesque tea fields and unique wooden houses dotting the hillsides. Overnight: Nyungwe Forest Lodge Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner.

Day 2: Guided Nature Walk and Primate Encounters

Today, you’ll experience a guided nature walk in Nyungwe Forest, home to a rich diversity of animals and over three hundred bird species, including the Rwenzori turaco and black and white casqued hornbill. You can choose to embark on an escorted walk in search of large groups of colobus monkeys, sometimes numbering up to 400 in a group, or go chimp tracking. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest and return late afternoon to the Nyungwe Forest Lodge. Overnight: Nyungwe Forest Lodge Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 3: Visit Cultural Museum and Botanical Gardens

Depart for Kigali, and along the way, stop in Butare to explore the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. Arrive in Kigali City in time for lunch, and afterward, drive north to Kinigi while taking in the famous rolling hills of Rwanda’s landscape. Accommodation options available (all on a full board basis):

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Parc National des Volcans

Prepare for an incredible day as you transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for the highly anticipated gorilla trekking experience in Parc National des Volcans. Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills, and swamps may be challenging and tiring, potentially lasting up to 8 hours. However, the moment you come face to face with these magnificent primates will make every effort worthwhile. Accommodation options available (all on a full board basis):

– Moderate: La Palme Hotel or Volcanoes Gorillas Hotel

Day 5: Another Day of Gorilla Trekking

After breakfast, head to the ORTPN offices for a briefing before embarking on another thrilling gorilla trekking adventure. The trek takes you through the breathtaking foothills of the Virungas, offering stunning panoramic views. As you enter the national park, you’ll be immersed in the lush rainforest, alive with the calls of colorful birds and the chatter of the rare golden monkey. Keep an eye out for the elusive populations of buffalo and elephant. Spend time observing the gorillas, watching the adults caring for their young, grooming, and resting, while the playful youngsters frolic in the vines in a delightful display. Day 6: Departure for Kigali

Time permitting, embark on a city tour of Kigali, including shopping for souvenirs. Finally, transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
